Ron Fawcett is one of our most influential rock climbers. He's the man responsible for Careless Torque, Master's Edge, The Prow, New Dawn, Zoolook and Strawberries.

A natural-born climber he tied into a climbing rope for the first time while still at school and was instantly hooked. Ten years, Fawcett was the most famous rock climber in Britain and among the best in the world. He helped pioneer the new wave whose dedication to training transformed the sport. Standards were pushed further and faster than ever before – or since. His legacy of new climbs and influence on the game ranks him alongside the very best in the history of the sport.
 
Ron was also one of the first to style himself a professional rock climber. This lead to starring in the landmark television documentary series Rock Athlete, with it's opening sequence of Ron smoothly soloing Tensor (a tricky E3 at Tremadog) and the final programme , his first ascent ogf Lord of the Flies. Far from enjoying all the the fame, Fawcett found the pressures of the limelight unwelcome, and, at the end of the 1980s he faded gracefully from view.
